Remi Jablecki born in 1996, in Zielona Góra, Poland. He lives, works, and studies in Edinburgh. His practice focuses on painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation, predominantly concentrating on canvas painting. Coming from Poland to live, grow and study in Edinburgh brings unique traditions, perspective, and experience to his visual language.

My practice crosses between painting, sculpture and drawing, predominantly focusing on oil painting. I use elements of vegetable plants and life stories to build up commentary and narrative on my personal experience of being gay. Growing up in Poland and migrating to the UK prompts the research on Polish arts in Scotland to enrich my visual stories and celebrate my heritage. My artworks engage with the different landscapes of gardening and labour to transform the forces and habits of the garden through the physicality of the paint and brushes. I try to focus on painting specificity as a medium and work along actions and gestures used in gardening, such as; “pulling”, “removing”, “scratching”, “washing”, and “weeding”, to influence my imagery and queer the painting. I observe the intricate growth, uncontrolled life, and unnatural interactions in the gardens, I see these as equal to the wider society and human behaviours. Through multidisciplinary approaches, such as expressive drawing, watercolours and observation, I record and accumulate stories for the developed painting works. Human interaction with rich and diverse hierarchies of plants creates complex tensions through movement, labour, and control, converting our landscapes continuously. The setting of the plants and the refuge they provide influence my practice and inform the stories.
